Yes, all air conditioning systems with a cooling capacity of over 12KW need to be serviced by an accredited air conditioning inspector every five years.

However, unless your AC unit has an output of over 12KW you are not legally required to have it serviced. That being said, just because it is not the law does not mean you should neglect aircon servicing, regular servicing improves both the efficiency and lifespan of your air conditioning unit whilst also keeping your energy bills down.
